Both the men's and women's Providence Pilots soccer teams became National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) champions last weekend in Dubuque, IA.

The women beat Iowa's Faith Baptist Bible College 4-1 and then took Wisconsin's Maranatha Baptist University in Saturday's final.

“There’s a feeling inside our players that nothing can replace from the past weekend,” says Julika Phommarath. “Our season has been full of come-backs and needing to fight our way back into the lead. The regional final showed that same pattern, which makes this victory even more exciting for us.”

The men were trailing 2-1 with four minutes remaining in their semi-final against Chicago, IL’s Moody Bible Institute. The Pilots then ground out a tense 1-0 victory over Maranatha.

“Our team is full of individual talent and potential,” notes herby Magny after the match. “It was amazing to play and witness how everyone put their little pieces together in order to make this a memorable weekend.”

Meanwhile, the Providence Pilots women's volleyball team was in Greenville for the NCCAA National Championship. They won over Faith in straight sets and then lost 3-0 to Maranatha.

“It was an up-and-down weekend for us,” says head coach Kyle Guenther. “After the competition was over we received a call letting us know we had been chosen as one of the wildcard teams for nationals. This is a huge honour. We have a great team that I really believe in and I’m happy we’ll get a chance to show our skill on the national stage.”

Then in basketball, the Pilots women lost 72-48 to Bottineau, ND’s Dakota College on Saturday and then won over Montana's Stone Child College 77-69 on Sunday. The men fell 136-84 to Dakota and also won over Stone Child 112-107.112-107.

The Providence basketball teams will host Bemidji, ND’s Oak Hills Christian College this Friday and Saturday.
