The Providence Pilots men’s basketball team beat the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers 94-78 in Otterburne on Friday.

Team member, Romeo KC, dropped 27 points and added seven assists and seven rebounds during the game.

The Pilots, who are third in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference standings, have now won two of their last three games .

“Our effort and intensity was the best I’ve seen all year,” says Friesen. “It’s definitely something to build on going forward.”

Meanwhile, the women’s basketball team also faced CMU on Friday, but lost 76-38.

“It was a tough first half but I think we responded in the second and played better basketball,” says head coach Joel Coursey. “But, we will need to have a short memory and finish the semester off strong down in Iowa this weekend.”

In volleyball, the Pilots women remain unbeaten in the MCAC after downing the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen in straight sets on Sunday.

The Pilots finished second at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida. This season, the Pilots are a perfect 7-0 in provincial play and have dropped two sets.

“We played a solid match on Sunday,” said head coach Kyle Guenther—the reigning NCCAA North Region Coach of the Year. “Coming off a successful week at Nationals I was hoping there wouldn’t be a drop in our level. But we came out with the energy and execution that I asked of our team. We can still cut down on the errors on our side of the net, and we will look to improve on that this week.”

The men’s squad also posted a victory over the U of W 3-2. The Pilots put two points between themselves and the third-place Wesmen and are now just four points back of MCAC leaders CMU.

“Although we were able to find our game in the second and third sets, and were able to find a way to win the match, I think we have a lot of areas in which we need to improve,” says head coach Scott Masterson.

Both Providence basketball teams will be playing in a tournament in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday. Their next home games are January 14 against the Red River College Rebels.
