The men's basketball team at Providence University College is at the top of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) and Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC).

After a win and a loss this last weekend against the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers, head coach Tim Friesen says, "It was an up-and-down weekend. On Saturday we played a great second quarter and build a good lead. But the flow of the game changed in the third, and neither team was able to get into much of a rhythm. We managed to pull it together at the end to close out the game.”

The women's basketball team lost both their games against the Blazers and, along with the men's team, will play Trinity twice this weekend.

In volleyball, the women kept their MCAC lead and won over Les Rouges de I'Universite de Saint-Boniface, but then lost to the Red River College Rebels. The men were able to win over the Rebels, but lost to Les Rouges and are currently tied with CMU for first place in the division.

Next up for both volleyball teams is a pair of matches in Brandon against the Assiniboine Community College Cougars.

Meanwhile, in futsal, the 2018 MCAC season kicked off on Saturday. The women's team won 6-0 over Red River College and the men's team was edged 4-3 by the Rebels.

"This was a great way to start our futsal season,” says the women’s coach Tory Walker. “All week we worked on our systems, and as a team we stuck to those systems and played a really great game both offensively and defensively. I think it was a great game for our first-year players, too. It gave them a taste of the fast-paced game futsal is.”

The Providence futsal teams will now take on CMU tonight in Winnipeg.
