The Providence Pilots men's and women's soccer teams came away with victories this past weekend.

The men's team first won in a 9-0 shutout to the Assiniboine Community College Cougars on Saturday and then won 3-0 over the Brandon University Bobcats on Sunday. First-year striker Juan Lafaurie of Bogota, Colombia scored six goals over the weekend—four of which came against the Bobcats.

"Juan finally found his feet and looked more like the elite goal-scorer I know he can be," says head coach Joey Passi. "As a team, we put some goals in the back of the net and controlled the games like we wanted to."

On the women's side, they accomplished a 5-0 victory over the Assiniboine Community College Cougars and took the Brandon University Bobcats 4-3.

"It was an unreal moment scoring my first university goal on our home field," says Lindsey Dueck, who scored the winning goal against the Bobcats. "I'm so proud of how we pushed so hard right to the end of the game. Our hard work is really starting to show."

Both the men's and women's soccer teams will head to Minneapolis, MN for the National Christian College Athletic Association games against Crown College and North Central University.

Meanwhile, the Province Pilots volleyball teams traveled to Red Deer, AB last weekend.

The women's team lost to Ambrose University 3-1 on Friday followed by a 3-1 win over Olds College. The women then lost to Red Deer College 3-1 on Saturday and had a straight-sets win over Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.

"I knew this week was going to be a big test for us," says head coach Kyle Guenther. "Our last match against SAIT is where it all came together. We played our highest-quality match of the year and controlled play from start to finish."

The men's volleyball team opened with a 3-1 win over College of the Rockies followed by a loss to Ambrose University, Red Deer Colege, and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.

"We responded well after the Red Deer match and played some of our best volleyball of the preseason," notes head coach Scott Masterson. "The teams we played against this weekend will end up being some of the best in the country, so we felt like we played well and showed we are able to compete with that level of competition."

Next up for the men is this weekend’s tournament at Red River College in Winnipeg while the women will travel to Devils Lake, ND for the Lake Region tournament October 14-15.
