The Ile des Chenes North Stars will play in the 2016 Allan Cup.

The North Stars gave up a pair of late third period goals but held on for a 5-4 victory over the Manitoba Lightning Sunday night in Morden.

Ile des Chenes took the best-of-three Allan Cup qualifier two games to one.

Andres Strome, Reid Gow, Mitch Doell, Mike Rey and Lee Goran did the goal scoring for the North Stars.

Ile des Chenes captain Ryan St. Laurent says it was exciting to put his old #12 jersey back on.

"It meant a lot actually," said St. Laurent. "We haven't had a team now for three, four years. I played for South East and it was good playing there. The guys were awesome. Players and management treated my well but to come back and play for your hometown, where you won it before and have all those memories with that jersey on, means a lot."

Jason Frykas had a pair of goals for the Lightning while the rest went to Ken Selby and Matt Gingera.

The North Stars won the series opener 5-4 on February 28th in Morden.

The Lightning took game two 4-3 in double overtime on March 6th in Ile des Chenes.

The North Stars won the 2003 Allan Cup and were the host team (Steinbach North Stars) for the 2009 Allan Cup when it was held at the T.G. Smith Centre for the first time.

The 2016 Allan Cup National Senior "AAA" Hockey Championship will be held April 11th to 16th in Steinbach.

The South East Prairie Thunder are the host team and the defending Allan Cup champions.
