Justin McDonald of Breezy Bend hasn’t hit one range ball all year.

Some golfers just don't need to practice.

On Thursday McDonald won his second Provincial championship this month.

McDonald, who captured the Manitoba Mid-Amateur Championship at Falcon Lake, won the Provincial Men’s Amateur Championship by eight shots over clubmate Eric Johnson.

“It’s pretty good especially after winning the Mid-Amateur,” said McDonald. “It makes it even better winning two events in one year.”

McDonald went 68 & 70 at Quarry Oaks near Steinbach and then fashioned rounds of 73 & 74 at the Glendale Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg.

“Kept the ball in play and kept it in front of me basically,” said McDonald who went wire-to-wire. “Never had to hit a provisional or anything like that.”

Former two-time champion Devon Schade of Beausejour, who plays out of Elmhurst, was one over par 73 Thursday and finished in 12th place at plus 14.

Niverville’s Colwyn Abgrall, who plays out of Southwood, was 75 and plus 16.

Doug Penner of the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club was 73 and finished at plus 22.

Jon Schroeder was three-over par 75 Thursday at Glendale

Jon Schroeder of Quarry Oaks double bogeyed the 18th hole Thursday and finished with a three-over par 75.

That was 10 shots better than his first attempt at Glendale on Wednesday.

“I was not very familiar with Glendale so obviously the third round I struggled quite a bit,” said Schroeder who was 78 & 73 at his home course. “The ball striking wasn’t there but as we progressed into the fourth round I felt way more comfortable here and the score showed.”

Schroeder finished at plus in a tie for 26th place at plus 23.

Nathan Kraynyk of Lake of the Sandhills and Tyson Ehnes of Lorette were both 79 Thursday and both finished at plus 25.

Troy Kehler of the Fly-In was 82 and plus 32.

Howard Plett of Quarry was 83 and finished at plus 43.
