The Steinbach Pistons broke a team record by recording 3 goals in 31 seconds propelling the team to a 6-1 win over the Virden Oil Capitals extending the Pistons winning streak to 9 straight games.

After two separate delay's that pushed the scheduled puck drop of 7:30 pm back to almost 8:30 pm, both the Oil Caps and the Pistons came out a bit flat. It wasn't until about the half-way point of the period that both teams found their legs and began to show off impressive speed.

Neither team had much in the way of chances until Mark Taraschuk unleashed a wrister from the point that found the back of the net for his 8th of the year giving Steinbach a 1-0 lead. Bradley Schoonbaert and Drew Worrad had the assists.

With the assist on the opening goal, Schoonbaert hit the 200 point mark in his MJHL career. "I found out a couple days ago," Schoonbaert said after the game of his pursuit for 200. "I think it's pretty cool. To get it in a win is great too."

Nine seconds after the Taraschuk goal, the defender helped set up another as Schoonbaert slid the puck over to Worrad who cashed in for his 20th goal of the year pushing the lead to 2-0.

Just 22 seconds after the 2-0 goal, the Pistons capped off the frame when Brendan Martin (15) tipped home a Darby Gula point shot giving the Pistons a 3-0 lead.

Steinbach's 3 goals in 31 seconds breaks the record for the fastest 3 goals in team history. The previous record was 3 goals in 1:10.

In the second, the Oil Caps got on the board when they converted on a power-play to cut the lead to 3-1.

In the third, after a strong penalty kill, the top line for Steinbach was at it again as Worrad and Schoonbaert both picked up their 3rd points of the night on Austin Heidemann's 20th goal of the year, giving the Pistons their 3 goal lead back, 4-1.

The scoring continued as Brady Tatro snapped home his 16th of the year with a hard wrister under the glove of the Virden goalie. Gula had the lone helper on the 5-1 goal.

The final marker of the night went to Worrad who was in the right place at the right time when a Taraschuk shot banked off his skate and into the net for his 21st of the year, finishing the night off with the team's 6-1 goal.

Matthew Thiessen was sensational finishing the night with 31 saves, often times fighting through traffic or tracking deflections.

The power play finished 0-5 while the penalty kill went 4-5.

The Pistons continue their 3 game home stand when they welcome in the Neepawa Natives Friday night.

Coaching Milestone

With the win, head coach Paul Dyck hit the 250 win mark. "It shows how great the teams we've had over the past few years," the coach said after the game. "I've been lucky to have a lot of great players and a great staff to work with. It goes quick, that's for sure, it's been a lot of fun."

While the score finished a 6-1 win, Dyck feels his team still had more to give. "I don't think the score is the story of the game. They are a hardworking team and we were able to cash in on our chances. We played very solid defence though, I thought we kept the chances down. It was a good learning experience and something we can take going forward."

With only 9 games remaining in the regular season, Dyck is looking forward to the rest of the schedule pushing his team to continue to play "Pistons hockey". "We like that teams will be desperate, we want to play teams at their best. There is never an easy night in this league and it'll be good for us to keep developing good habits leading into the playoffs."
