Raygan Kirk got her first start for Team Canada but an early third-period goal by the Americans gave them a lead they wouldn't give up in what finished a 3-2 loss for Canada.

After a back and forth opening 20 minutes of play, Canada scored the opening goal with just over three minutes to go in the first.

Another early strike by Canada pushed the lead to 2-0 less than two minutes into the second.

Team USA cranked it up scoring a pair of goals 14 seconds apart to knot the game at 2-2.

Kirk was huge for Canada in the second, making several key stops to keep the game tied, including a sprawling save to stonewall Casey O’Brien trying to finish off a 2-on-1.

In the third, the Americans scored to get their first lead of the game 3-2.

Canada had their chances to tie the game throughout the third period as the USA got themselves into penalty trouble.

Unable to capitalize, Canada was dealt their first loss of the tournament to fall to 1-1.

Kirk finished the night with 20 saves on 23 shots against.

Canada wraps up the preliminary round vs Russia on Tuesday at 10:00 pm CT.
