The days are getting longer and the grass is getting greener at the Steinbach Fly-In golf course.

"The course looks good," noted Brian Guenther who is into his 14th season as the head professional at the Fly-In. "We need to continue with the heat and some rain and things are going to really perk up here. The golf course is in good condition."

The 18-hole layout opened April 26th which unfortunately for golfers itching to hit a golf ball was a week or two later than usual.

"It was a tough winter for golf courses with minimal snow cover in some areas and lots in other areas and really it stayed cold right into the spring," said Guenther. "It did takes it's toll but things are coming around now. Spring seemed to drag out a little bit and took a long time to get here. The last three weeks it's been nice and warm. We have had those showers and it's kind of perked people into coming out again."

On a very positive note, the Fly-In head pro has seen an increase in traffic at the golf course the past couple of years.

"Our rounds are continuing to grow, membership continues to grow and we're working at it."

"We have great facilities here," added Guenther. "Our driving range with grass tees the whole way, plus a large area to hit golf balls from. We have a really large practice green and our short game area is great as well. If you're not playing you should be out here practicing and getting ready for playing."

Two important dates on the Fly-In calendar are the Ladies Open which takes place Wednesday, July 4th and the Senior Open on Tuesday, July 17th.
