The Lorette Comets are Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League champions for the third time.

Troy Beauchemin scored at 4:44 of double overtime to lift the Comets past the Springfield Xtreme 4-3 Thursday night in front of a jam-packed Ile des Chenes/Grande Pointe Arena.

After the medal and trophy presentation, Beauchemin talked about the dramatic ending to game seven.

"Very emotional. Jesse Mistelbacher had a great look. He was coming from backdoor. If he wanted to pass it to me, I may have yelled at him a few times. To score that goal to put the guys over and win the championship, feels awesome. It's amazing."

Lorette forward Devon Weir scored the only goal of the first period.

Second period power play goals by Cole Dekoninck, who was named the Playoff MVP, and Jayden Berard extended the Comets lead to 3-0.

But just like Tuesday night in Oakbank when they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 and keep their season alive, the Xtreme stormed back in game seven.

First Matt Gagliardi got Springfield on the board with two minutes left in the middle frame.

Then Owen Blocker scored four minutes into the third period and cut the Comets lead to 3-2.

Nicolas Daymond notched the equalizer with 16 seconds left in regulation and goaltender Dylan Kizlik on the bench for an extra attacker.

Beauchemin's winner was scored after almost 15 minutes of extra time.

"It just feels so much better to win it under these circumstances." said Comets captain Derik Cook. "We had the lead in game six and then we lost the lead here with 16 seconds left. We just found a way and it feels so good."

Kizlik finished the night with 64 saves.

Lorette's Owen McMillan faced 45 shots and said it was an unbelievable series between the two best teams in the league.

"I played two years ago and the season got cancelled. It was unfortunate so it was good to play Springfield again. I've got to give props to Kizlik. He played his heart out. Our whole team is impressed with him."

Xtreme head coach Kevin Maslechko talked about the effort he saw from his team in game seven, how they battled back and gave themselves a chance to win in overtime.

"That was the character that we had in the room all year. For the fourth year guys that aged out, I have tears in my eyes having to say good-bye. The first and second year guys, this was a great learning experience for them. A fantastic learning experience. They grew up fast. They know what it takes to win. We made a point to stay on the ice and watch the presentation. Lorette's a great team. A lot of character and heart there too."

The Comets also won the HTJHL championship in 2009-2010 & 2015-2016 and it was the first game seven since the spring of 2011 when Matt Bayduza scored 7:53 into overtime to lift the Grunthal Red Wings past Lorette 2-1.
