The Eastman Selects continue to put the hockey world on notice after another strong series of hockey games.

It was the Winnipeg Jets AAA Classic which features teams from Manitoba, North Dakota, BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Eastman started on Thursday by pitching a 4-0 shutout against the rival Winnipeg Hawks.

On Friday, the Selects had a pair of games starting with the Weyburn Wings then later against Canadian Athletic Club from Edmonton. Eastman took both games by the same score, 6-3. Players of the Game for these contests were Merik Boles from Lorette and Lewis Hartung from Steinbach.

With a perfect 3-0 record, the 15U Selects slotted in against Vancouver North East Chief Saturday morning. The Quarter Final went the way of the Selects as they continued their winning ways with a 4-2 victory. Steinbach's Luke Mistelbacher was named the Player of the Game.

The Winnipeg Warriors awaited the Selects in the semi-finals. It was the first time these two power house teams have met this season. The Warriors were the favorite going in as they were undefeated in league play and ranked #9 in Western Canada.

The Selects ranked 23rd.

But games are not won and lost on rankings.

The pride of Mitchell, Colin Wiebe was sensational and a difference maker finishing with 40 saves on 41 shots, backstopping the Selects to a gutsy, hard fought 4-1 win that really got the attention of other teams, coaching staffs and scouts in the building. Job Peters of Steinbach nabbed Player of the Game honors.

After an emotional Saturday night, the Selects couldn't muster any more magic in the finals as they fell to the Winnipeg Monarchs 4-2.

Steinbach's Job Peters took home some serious hardware, earning Tournament MVP after putting up an eye-popping 16 points in 6 games.

Colin Wiebe was beyond impressive finishing with 96 saves on 100 shots against, leading all goalies with a .960 sv%.

The Selects had three players in the top 15 out of 236 skaters.

Peters along with Merik Boles and Lewis Hartung combined for 34 points in 6 games.

The Selects continue to demand respect from the hockey world. New coaching and newfound passion have the class of 2005 born skaters off to a 24-4-1 record in league and tournament play combined.

The Selects host the very fast and physical Southwest Cougars Friday November 29th in Landmark. The puck will drop at 7:30 pm and it's free admission.
