Season 14 came to an end last Wednesday in Ste. Anne when the Aces defeated the Red River Wild 4-2 in the deciding seventh game of the Carillon Senior Hockey League final.

"Congratulations to Ste. Anne on winning the championship," said CSHL president Ray Laing. "Obviously there was a little controversy and a couple of suspensions along the way but in the end the fans were treated to some very good hockey and a seven game series that went right down to the wire. It turned out well."

The post-season had it's share of interesting moments starting with the Springfield 98's and their decision to play all three games of their opening round series against the Habs in La Broquerie.

"The Oakbank Arena is just one of the busiest places in Southeastern Manitoba," said Laing. "Give the 98's credit, they were willing to travel for the playoffs and make things work. Red River and Springfield had a heck of a semifinal series and the Grunthal Red Wings came from fifth place and knocked off the Steinbach Huskies in round one. It was an interesting and well played playoffs."

The Aces, Wild, 98's Huskies, Red Wings and Habs are all expected back next season.

The question that needs to be answered - will the St. Malo Warriors return for the 2017-2018 season after taking a leave of absence?

"The league would welcome St. Malo back into the fold in a minute," Laing said. "They've always been a good franchise and there's an awful lot of history there. It would great to see them come back. Hopefully they've been working at it a little bit. Maybe they'll be back next year."

Season 15 will begin in just over six months.

"There is work that needs to be done," said president Laing. "There is a shortage of players right across the league but we've addressed that and we will continue to address that. In the case of Grunthal, they kept working at it all year. In the end their local players were coming back and playing. They were the core of that team. You have to keep working at it. We'll be here."
