For the third consecutive year Manitoba Food and Rural Initiatives will be staging Open Farm Day on Sunday, September 16. This is an initiative designed to encourage people who don’t normally experience life on the farm, to visit a number of farms all in one day. More than 50 host families will be prepared to welcome visitors to their farms. Dairy farms, organic vegetable farms, alpaca farms and many others will be open to visitors. Information about this event is available at www.openfarmday.ca

Mennonite Heritage Village is one of the more than 50 destinations for this event. We will offer general admission at 50% off the regular prices. The Livery Barn Restaurant will be the venue for Supper From the Field, a meal of locally grown foods prepared by a team of Canadian Culinary Federation chefs. There will be a 4:00 serving and a 6:00 serving. Tickets can be purchased at Mennonite Heritage Village by calling 326-9661. Dinner guests will have the opportunity to upgrade their pass to include a hands-on schnetje making experience and a horse drawn wagon ride between 3:00 and 6:00 PM. This promises to be a great family day.
