Agape House, a local non-profit dedicated to supporting individuals and families in crisis, recently received a denim donation from local clothing retailer, Maurices. Durable dignity Housing and outreach coordinator, Lisa Fast, says receiving the jeans means a lot to their clients. “For many who come to us with very little, receiving clothing that is clean and durable, provides dignity during a difficult time,” she says. In a stylish show of support, Maurices launched a denim donation drive this past August and September — shoppers who donated gently worn jeans received $10 off their next new pair. “I think we got around three or four bags of donations.” The right fit “Jeans are always, I think, such a huge hit around here,” Fast notes. The donated jeans are now available in the organization’s community closet, where a dedicated team of volunteers sorts, washes, and organizes all incoming items. “Not only are they durable and can last a long time, but they can ease financial pressure for clients.” Clients can shop around in the community closet, providing them a sense of normalcy.
