What makes Canada so attractive to those looking to emigrate?

Bijan Babaie, his wife Mozghan Shaygan and his son moved to Canada from Iran in late 2021.

"Iran is a very beautiful country but in these recent years after bad sanctions on Iran that started from the United States, the Iran economy is in a very bad position so we decided to leave our country and choose Canada for a new life."

Bijan and Mozghan were both physicians in Iran but aren’t able to practice here in Canada. Babaie says they still felt the move was worth it. The two now run BMS Medical & Health Equipment and Supplies on Main Street in Steinbach.

Meanwhile, Chirag Patel moved from India in 2011. He now owns and operates Brandt Pharmacy near the intersection of Brandt and Main Street.

"Honestly, just like me, a lot of Indians have the dream to move to Canada permanently. I am lucky enough that I made it but there are a lot of people that are willing to move here so that indicates that there is something that is in Canada that attracts a lot of people. In Canada, we see a better future for my family and also for future generations as Canada has better opportunities for growth."

Patel adds "Canada offers a superior quality of life thanks to our clean environment here, clean air compared to other parts of the world, lack of noise pollution, well-organized traffic and improved law and order compared to other parts of the world so that makes our life easier."

Babaie echos these sentiments.

"We did a lot of research about the countries before we chose our future life and we know that there are a lot of reasons to choose this country, the rules and the laws in Canada are the first thing. In Canada, everyone has good opportunity to grow in his or her job and a lot of opportunities to grow economically and we think that is better for us."

Both Patel and Babaie say that multi-culturalism also played a big part in their decisions. They note this helps Canada be an accepting and welcoming place.

Patel and Babaie wish the Southeast a very happy Canada Day.
