Though Monday is a holiday in Manitoba, there will still be ample opportunity to do some shopping in Steinbach.

Since 2015, Manitoba has marked the first Monday in August as Terry Fox Day. Michelle Bezditny, Executive Director for Steinbach Chamber of Commerce says Terry Fox Day is not an official statutory or general holiday. Rather, it is a civic holiday.

"Therefore businesses can be open on Monday if they so choose," says Bezditny.

She suggests some businesses may decide to remain closed on Monday in order to give their staff the day off, while other places may decide to open.

"We may see the larger retail stores open for example, as some of the smaller ones are more likely to be closed," she explains.

These are Monday's hours for the following stores in Steinbach:

  • Walmart: 7 am to 10 pm
  • Shoppers Drug Mart:  8 am to 10 pm
  • Superstore: 9 am to 5 pm
  • Sobeys: 9 am to 6 pm
  • Canadian Tire: Noon to 5 pm
  • Clearspring Centre: Noon to 5 pm

For those wanting to go swimming on Monday, Bezditny says the Steinbach Aquatic Centre will have three public swim sessions, though she encourages pre-purchasing swim passes as it is anticipated to be a busy day. Those swim sessions are from 10 am to noon, 1 to 3 pm and 4 to 6 pm.

Also on Monday, the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Course will be open from 6 am to dark, while the Jake Epp Library will remain closed all day.

Meanwhile, another option for entertainment on Monday is Mennonite Heritage Village, where Pioneer Days is being celebrated all weekend.
