Steinbach's Fire Chief has come out with his annual list of worst intersections for crashes.

Kel Toews notes this list is only for collisions attended by the fire department. For 2022, there was a three-way tie for top spot. Those three intersections are Highway 12 and Penfeld Drive, Highway 12 and Clearsprings Road and then Main Street and Kroeker Avenue.

Each of those three intersections had three crashes last year.

The two intersections along Highway 12 which made the list, are both controlled by stop lights, while the Main Street/ Kroeker Avenue intersection is not. Toews was asked whether safety improvements are needed at any of those locations.

"I don't think so," he says. "We're not going to jump to conclusions based on one year with three accidents. But that's above my pay grade, I don't make those decisions."

Toews says there are two intersections in Steinbach that routinely make this list, which did not for 2022. Those two are Main Street and Reimer Avenue as well as Main Street and Highway 12.

Meanwhile, the Steinbach Fire Department responded to fewer crashes in 2022 than 2021. There were 51 such calls last year compared to 66 the previous year.
