Radar image shows the trough as it moves across Alberta

A large low pressure system spanning from South Dakota to Montana coupled with a long trough moving through Alberta is shaping up to bring us some wet weather this weekend.  Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says this combination will move into southern Manitoba Friday night.  She expects the low pressure system will bring cloud, showers, rain and possibly some thunderstorms.

Heavy rainfall is forecast with 25-30mm expected.  She notes it's not quite at the warning level but still a lot.  We might actually see strong winds along with these thunderstorms as well.  Hasell adds it will also be much cooler than the past week with expected daytime temperatures dropping into the low to mid 20's.  She also expects more of this severe weather will take place closer to the US border in the North Dakota and Minnesota areas.  The current weather models show the thunderstorms that do take place here in Manitoba will not be as violent as those across the border to the south.

Hasell notes higher temperatures are in the forecast again for mid next week but right now it would be difficult to say if the heat dome is re-establishing or if it's just normal July weather.  We will have to wait and see.
