The Western Grains Research Foundation has released its 2005 annual report.  Executive Director Lanette Kuchenski says last year was key as new long term research agreements were signed with various institutions including Agriculture Canada and the Universities of Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba.  The Foundation also increased the wheat check-off to 30 cents per tonne, and 50 cents per tonne for barley.  Kuchenski notes more than $3.8 million was invested in wheat and barley research during 2005.  Since the Foundation started in 1993-94 it has supported the development of more than 55 new wheat and barley varieties.
