Dominik Wasik made 22 saves while recording his second shutout of the year as the Steinbach Pistons blanked the Selkirk Steelers 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The opening period was heavily tilted the way of the home side as the Pistons piled up chances but couldn't find the back of the net.

Neo Kiemeny, Nick Mikan, Landon Roberts, and Ty Paisley all had great scoring chances but the Steelers goalie turned each and every one of them away.

Steinbach was finally able to break through on a power play late in the frame. A point shot from rookie sensation Warren Clark made its way through traffic in front and in for the 18-year-olds second goal of the year. Davis Fry and Travis Hensrud picked up the assists on the 1-0 goal.

The Pistons outshot Selkirk 19-3 in the first period and took that 1-0 lead into the intermission.

The second period was a bit more balanced as Wasik stopped everything the Steelers threw his way. The 20-year-old showed off his now trademark calmness keeping square to shooters, making sure there were no rebounds, and covering anything loose around his crease without ever looking panicked.

Again, Steinbach outshot Selkirk 12-6 but the score remained the same, 1-0 after 40.

In the third, Steinbach got a little breathing room thanks to a rookie scoring his first career MJHL goal.

17-year-old Brett Kaiser took a pass through the neutral zone, dashed into the Steelers zone, and ripped a shot short side top shelf for his first-ever goal in the league.

Hunter Degelman made sure he got the puck for the rookie to take home as a keepsake.

Kaiser was all smiles as he lead the fly-by the Pistons bench. Noah Szabo picked up the lone assist off a beautiful tape-to-tape pass.

The Steelers pushed but Wasik and company stood tall until Hensrud sealed the game with an empty netter, his 10th goal of the season, putting the game away  3-0. Fry and Paisley picked up the helpers.

Wasik's 22-save shutout was aided by a strong penalty kill that finished 6-6 while Clark's power-play goal in the first was the only marker the Pistons man advantage would cash in on, finishing the night 1-5.

Steinbach wraps up a three-game homestand and the month of October as they welcome in once again the Winnipeg Blues. The Pistons start November with three straight road games traveling to Portage, Winkler, and Niverville.

Game time on Friday night is 7:30 pm at the TG Smith Centre.
