There were no injuries in a van fire Wednesday afternoon west of La Broquerie.

The La Broquerie Fire Department was called out around two o'clock to the intersection of Kokomo Road and Kokomo Lane, about three miles west of La Broquerie.

Fire Captain Miguel Dube explains the female driver heard a grinding noise and then noticed smoke coming out of the engine. She pulled over and called her husband, who told her to get out of the vehicle. Moments later the van was burning.

"The fire was mostly contained to the engine bay and the front driver's compartment, but at this point, the vehicle is a total loss," explains Dube. "Nobody was hurt."

That intersection was closed temporarily because the van was blocking part of the road and there was toxic smoke coming from the vehicle.
