Manitoba's unemployment rate was unchanged in January at 5.4 per cent. That's third lowest in Canada behind Alberta and Saskatchewan. Statistics Canada reports the number of full time jobs in Manitoba decreased by 3,700 from December but part time jobs increased by 3,800.

Nationally the unemployment rate was up one-tenth of a point to 7.6 per cent as more people searched for work. Employment increased by only 2,300 jobs, much less than the 25,000 economists had expected.
