La Broquerie Fire Department was called out on Saturday to extinguish a Quonset that was on fire.

Chief Al Nadeau says they were called around 3:30pm to a property just east of the village of La Broquerie.

He reports that some contents were lost, noting the owner had been able to pull a couple of machines out.

Nadeau adds that fire crews worked hard for longer than two hours to cool the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The fire department reports that the owner had just cut the grass and parked his tractor back in the shed, a few minutes later, it flared up. No injuries were reported.

Nadeau says this time of year, there is a lot of highly flammable cotton around, it can get stuck in the hot lawn mower, and it would not take much to ignite.
