Donations have been pouring in for Lawrence Kulyk of Tolstoi as he recovers from the loss of his family home.

Last week, we heard about the house fire that left him homeless. His family set up a Go Fund Me account to collect donations for the 70-year-old man as he looks for a new home. The old family homestead was unable to be insured due to its condition.

Kulyk’s sister, Janet Laurie, says people have responded to the call for help after hearing the story about the devastating fire.

want to move here to St. Malo, where I am at the Chalet. But I have his name down in two places right now, and it's just waiting.”

The Go Fund Me account has raised $5,390 as of April 28, 2022. It will stay open for a few more days.

Laurie says her brother is so thankful for all the support. She adds that people have been offering food and clothing, which Laurie says is very helpful.

Kulyk and his siblings will return to the ashes of their old family home as soon as they are all together, as a couple of sisters are arriving from other provinces. Laurie says this final visit will help bring some closure.

She notes that Kulyk's cat made it out of the fire and is now being cared for by a neighbour.

While this has been a tramatic event for her brother and the whole family, Laurie says the outpouring of support has turned this into a beautiful story.
