The winter storm warning continues for southeastern Manitoba as the weather system is expected to stick around for the remainder of the day.

A number of highways were closed yesterday in southcentral and southwestern Manitoba, including the perimeter highway, and closures continue this morning.

There are some school closures for today, including Hanover and Seine River School Divisions.

Highways in the Southeast are open as of 6 am with reports that they are snow covered with blowing snow, drifting snow, and swirling snow. Visibility is reduced in most areas.

Snow and blowing snow are expected to continue across all of southern Manitoba today as a low-pressure system affecting the area slowly begins to weaken. Further snowfall accumulations of 5-10 cm can be expected in the Red River Valley (including Winnipeg) and southeastern Manitoba.

Southwestern Manitoba (including Brandon) should see another 2-5 cm. Dauphin and the Interlake will see an additional 5-10 cm today, with an additional 10-15 cm in Berens River.

A few more centimetres of snow are likely in most areas tonight before tapering off on Friday.

Travel on area highways may be difficult or impossible, particularly this morning. If you must travel, be sure to check highway conditions before leaving and that your car has a winter survival kit.
