The RM of Tache followed a similar trend to other municipalities in the southeast in 2021.

Several municipalities have reported that last year was an exceptional year for construction. Tache Mayor Justin Bohemier says you can now add his municipality to that list too.

"Every RM seems to be really booming right now, right outside of the Perimeter, and we are no exception," notes Bohemier. "We've seen great growth happen in the RM of Tache and we've seen it happen in almost every little corner of the RM."

Tache issued 248 building permits in 2021 compared to 170 a year earlier. There was $42.1 million worth of construction last year, up from the $35.5 million in 2020.

When you break down the numbers further, there were 72 permits pulled for single-family dwellings, 28 for accessory buildings, 17 for multi-family dwellings and then 131 other.

"Huge, huge, huge gains this year," says Bohemier. "We're definitely seeing growth and we're trying to manage that in the best possible way."

Bohemier says interestingly, Landmark saw tremendous growth in 2021. That community held a grand opening in early November for its new water treatment plant. Prior to that, growth had been stalled because of a moratorium placed on that community. As for 2022, Bohemier says he can already tell that it will be a strong year for housing in Landmark.

In Lorette, he notes they have expanded the borders of the Local Urban District to include another development there. Bohemier says there is no area of the municipality that is currently not experiencing growth.

"We're just happy to see people targeting our area and wanting to come and become part of our community," adds Bohemier. "I've met so many great people doing this, it's really a nice thing to see and we have great people coming to the area, so it's good for them to join our family."

Bohemier says he knows that there are people driving into Tache and deciding to relocate there after seeing what the municipality has to offer with its schools and infrastructure. He notes these visitors love the mentality and the small town, rural feel while appreciating that Tache is close enough to the city for work.
