The Steinbach Skimmers shaved 122 seconds from their record results during the 2017 Swim Canada Provincial Championships last weekend.

Club President Matthew Reimer says it was impressive to see the eight members of their club who qualified to go up against other swimmers from across the province.

This is what they aspire to, to make it to provincials. So, you had a lot of kids that were really, really focused, really driven. So, with our club, and the results that they were putting up, there was a lot of pride."

Reimer notes 122 seconds, or 2 minutes and 2.18 seconds, may not seem like a lot, but in the Olympics a swimmer will cut their record time by 2/100ths of a second and it's a big deal.

Head coach Pam Reimer says it was a three-day event where the eight swimmers competed in 49 individual events and got a personal best time in 35 events.

The swimmers will now start looking at qualifying for the Prairie Winter Invitational which runs March 2 to 5.
