The head of Steinbach Parks and Recreation says they're working on a number of larger projects that the community can look forward to this year.

Russ Dyck appeared before city council at a Strategic Priorities Committee meeting earlier this week and laid out the department's plans for the year.

As Steinbach grows, Russ Dyck says they will be bringing a big upgrade to one of Steinbach's newer neighbourhoods.

"In Hampton Village, there is some greenspace there that we will be putting a playground and picnic shelter in. The neighbourhood has done some fundraising for that as well and we are applying for some grants so hopefully, that gets going sooner rather than later but it will go ahead this summer."

hat will be hard to miss.

The Parks and Recreation Department will also do a whole raft of smaller upgrades and maintenance projects throughout the year as well. Dyck says they are taking over more greenspace in newer developments, purchasing lawn equipment, a water truck, Gator, and vehicle hoist for the shop, and doing an annual maintenance shutdown at the Steinbach Aquatic Centre in the fall.
