The Steinbach Pistons appreciate the support of their fans in helping add some Christmas cheer for families going through tough times right now.

The Pistons held their annual toy drive last week during a home game, collecting new, unwrapped toys for families in the Southeast.

Sales and Marketing Manager Jamie Roy says a significant amount came in that evening.

“This year was a really good haul,” says Roy. “Fans really came to support, and we were able to donate a lot of toys back to Steinbach Community Christmas so they can get every child in the Southeast a toy under the tree this Christmas.”

Roy says the players appreciated seeing all the toys.

“They seemed pretty blown away with the amount of toys that we had collected this year,” he says. “It's obviously an eye opener how much Steinbach Community Christmas does, how many hampers go out each year. So, it's obviously a cool experience and a rewarding one for them, knowing that we can play a small part in helping fill these Christmas hampers.”

Defenseman Langley Kruggel says it was a large pile of toys donated by their fans.

And he adds that great things can happen when we all work together.

“It’s really great to see our community helping out,” Kruggel says. “It's good to get back to some people who don't have the most spending money for Christmas and whatnot.”

Kruggel says it is great to be part of a community that cares so much.

“Being in Steinbach, it's the best place to be,” he says. “You know, it's a really tight-knit community and there's support everywhere you go. It's a great feeling being here, and I've really enjoyed my time here so far.”

There is still time to donate toys for Community Christmas.
