With the last of the snow melting away, the city of Steinbach Parks and Rec staff have been busy preparing the fields and diamonds for spring sports to begin.

Cassandra Kornelson says a lot of work has already been happening on the ball diamonds at the AD Penner Park.

“Our park staff has been out there painting. I feel like day and night, and most of our fields are lined and will be painted. By the weekend we'll have everything up and running.”

When it comes to the Steinbach Soccer Park she says, “There was minimal damage over the winter, so everything looks really good for the start-up in soccer.”

Kornelson says there has been a lot of interest in renting the fields from different user groups.

“We've already started (baseball and soccer) as of this past Monday and we're right full tilt into the season. And we’ve got a lot of stuff happening in the next couple of weeks.”

And Kornelson says, park staff are also very excited for "the famous Pick-up and Walk to make Steinbach beautiful" coming up on Saturday.
