The Conservative MLA for Steinbach is defending his party's move on Monday to oppose a resolution on the Wheat Board. The NDP resolution calls on Ottawa for a farmer plebiscite on the future of the Board.  Kelvin Goertzen says it's too general.
He tells us his party supports the plebiscite on proposed changes in barley marketing.  But he says until changes are announced on wheat marketing and farmers know what those changes are, a plebiscite is pointless.  Goertzen feels the government is spending too much time on the Wheat Board issue.  He suggests farmers are much more concerned about the NDP's plans for a moratorium on hog barn construction and the lack of specifics about how long it might last.
