Austin Anderson of the Providence University College Pilots is the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Week. The third year veteran displayed his leadership with an impressive 29 kills, 14 digs, four blocks and four aces in an important road series victory against Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges over seven sets.To start the weekend, the Niverville native had 13 kills, five digs, two blocks, one ace and passed at a 2.5 average in a three set victory. On Saturday night, Anderson continue to dominate with 16 kills, nine digs, three aces and two blocks in a four set match win. The first place Pilots improved their league record to 7-1. Providence is riding a four-match winnng streak and avenged its only loss of this season against USB.

 

The Provincial AAAA Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball championship banner is on display at the Steinbach Regional Secondary School. The Sabres defeated the Lord Selkirk Royals 25-22, 24-26, 24-26, 25-21, 15-13 in the final this past Saturday in Winnipeg. Clayton Dreger asked SRSS coach Bryan Tottle how it felt to watch his team capture the school's first provincial jv girls AAAA volleyball championship.

 


The Brandon Wheat Kings opened their four-game road trip Tuesday night in Moose Jaw. Dominion City's Denton Mateychuk scored the shootout winner to lift the Warriors past Brandon 4-3. Riley Ginnell, Marcus Kallionkieli and Nate Danielson scored in regulation for the Wheat Kings.

 

Deb McCreanor of the La Salle Curling Club has a 2-1 record and Trevor Loreth of the Granite is 2-0 at the Canadian Curling Club Championships in Ottawa. McCreanor lost 8-2 to Tracey Larocque of Northern Ontario and beat Shelly Bradley of Prince Edward Island 7-4. Loreth won his lone game of the day 7-3 over Mark Robertson of Northwest Territories.
