The Steinbach Pistons face the Virden Oil Capitals tonight at Tundra Oil & Gas Place in game three of their Manitoba Junior Hockey League semifinal. The teams split the first two games of the best-of-seven series at the T.G. Smith Centre this past weekend. The Pistons won 5-4 in overtime in game one Saturday night and fell 4-2 in game two on Sunday. Game three will be broadcast on MIX 96 and SteinbachOnline.com and it begins with Dave Anthony's pre-game show at 7:15 p.m. Also tonight the Dauphin Kings meet the Flyers in Winkler. The Kings lead that series two games to none.

The Winnipeg Jets lost 3-0 to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Igor Shesterkin made 31 saves for his second straight shutout and former Jets forward Andrew Copp had a pair of assists. Ryan Strome scored twice for the Rangers. Winnipeg's Eric Comrie stopped 31 shots in his first start since March 31st. The Jets, who have lost three in a row, have five games left and are 10 points back of the Dallas Stars who hold down the second wild card spot in the NHL’s Western Conference. Winnipeg will be eliminated from playoff contention if the Stars get at least one point in their game against the Oilers tonight in Edmonton.

Hockey Canada has announced that two marquee international hockey events will be coming to Alberta this summer: the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship and 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. After being cancelled in December, the 2022 World Junior Championship will return to Rogers Place in Edmonton from Aug. 9-20. The results from games played in December will not be carried over to this summer’s World Juniors, and players born in 2002 or later will remain eligible to represent their respective countries. Austria, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States will form Group A, with Canada, Czechia, Finland, Latvia and Slovakia competing in Group B. Hosted in partnership with the Red Deer Rebels, the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, will run from July 31-Aug. 6 at the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer marking the first time the best-on-best tournament has been hosted in Canada by one community. Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team will play its preliminary-round games in Group A against Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland, while Czechia, Finland, Germany and the United States face each other in Group B. Since its inception in 1991, the event has featured premier under-18 players from some of the world’s greatest hockey nations and has seen Canada win a tournament-record 22 gold medals.|

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed receiver Lucky Jackson. The Lexington native spent four seasons at Western Kentucky, becoming one of the best wideouts in school history. He recorded 94 receptions for 1,133 yards and four touchdowns in his senior season, while being named First Responder Bowl MVP after a 17 catch performance. For his collegiate career, his 209 catches stand second all-time and 2,680 yards are third, while his nine 100-yard receiving games are tied for second. He registered 13 touchdowns during four seasons at WKU.
