The Steinbach Regional varsity boys basketball team lost their South Central Athletic Conference regular season finale 86-53 to the Dakota Lancers. Khean Koeuth had 24 points for the Sabres while Fara Fola-Bolumole added 14 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots. The SRSS will face the Glenlawn Lions in the semifinals on Wednesday in Winnipeg. The Steinbach Regional junior varsity basketball teams play their SCAC semifinals tonight in Winnipeg. The JV girls meet Glenlawn and the JV boys take on Dakota. The SRSS varsity girls will play their semifinal on Wednesday against the Lions.

 

Steinbach Pistons forward Quinton Pepper is a Manitoba Junior Hockey League Star of the Week. The 20-year-old London, Ontario native recorded three goals and five assists in the Pistons 7-0 victory over the Selkirk Steelers and 5-1 & 4-2 victories over the Winnipeg Blues. Steinbach can clinch first place in the MJHL's East Division with a win over the Winnipeg Freeze Wednesday night at the T.G. Smith Centre.

 

The Winnipeg Jets begin a four-game homestand tonight when they take on the Montreal Canadiens at Canada Life Centre. The Jets are in sixth place in the NHL's Central Division and are six points behind the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars who are tied for the second wildcard spot in the Western Conference. Forward Nikolaj Ehlers wore a non-contact jersey and skated with the team at an optional practice Monday for the first time in six weeks. Ehlers was injured after taking a knee-on-knee hit from Washington defenseman Dmitry Orlov in a game against the Capitals on January 18th. There is no time line on Ehlers return to the Jets lineup.

 

Manitoba champion Mike McEwen has made a roster move before the start of the 2022 Brier. Colton Lott, who lost the Provincial Men's final to McEwen last month in Selkirk, will replace lead Colin Hodgson who is nursing a lower-body injury. Hodgson missed two games at the Viterra Championship. Kyle Doering, who plays third for Lott, will be Team McEwen's alternate. The Canadian Men's Curling Championship begins Friday in Lethbridge.
