Hockey Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee will announce the women's hockey team nominated to the Canadian Olympic Team for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing at 3 p.m. today. Three Manitobans, defensemen Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne and Ashton Bell of Deloraine along with goaltender Kristen Campbell of Brandon are among the 26 players on Team Canada's centralization roster. 23 players will be named to Canada's Olympic Team.

 

Mike McAulay has been hired as Assistant General Manager and Director of Scouting for Niverville's MJHL franchise which will play its first game in the fall of 2022. McAulay has extensive experience in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League as well as feeder leagues throughout Canada and the United States. He previously worked with the Winkler Flyers as their Assistant General Manager and Head Scout.

 

The Winnipeg Jets have placed forward Nikolaj Ehlers in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol. Ehlers, who has 13 goals and 25 points in 33 games this season, joins forward Jansen Harkins, defenseman Dylan DeMelo, goaltender Arvid Holm and video coach Matt Prefontaine in protocol after they were added last week. The Jets next game is Thursday against the Red Wings in Detroit.

 

With the current public health orders having been extended until February 1st, CurlManitoba has postponed the 2022 Viterra Provincial Men's Curling Championship that was to start on January 25th at the Selkirk Recreation Complex. At this time, CurlManitoba is planning to run a championship for the 28 teams that have qualified from February 9th-13th.

 

The start of the South Central Athletic Conference High School basketball season has been delayed. Steinbach Regional varsity boys were to play Glenlawn and the Sabres varsity girls were to meet Windor Park at the SRSS gym on Monday night but both games were postponed.
