The Lorette Comets, Springfield Xtreme and Steinbach Huskies were winners in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Sunday night. Jayden Berard scored a pair of goals 10 seconds apart late in the third period as Lorette doubled up on Red River 4-2 in Ile des Chenes. Troy Beauchemin on the power play and Blake Noble shorthanded also scored for the Comets. Brayden Hildebrand and Bryson Loewen replied for the Mudbugs. Nicolas Daymond scored twice as Springfield downed Macdonald 6-1. Braeden Rebeck, Matt Gagliardi, Evan Veinot and Brady Chambers also scored for the Xtreme. Elie Scharf had the lone goal for the Swarm. Tyler Bueckert had a hat trick and Ethan Plett and Brandon Thiessen added two goals each as Steinbach shutdown Niverville 8-0. Dawson Smith had the other Huskies goal and chipped in with three helpers. Brandon Palmer made 13 saves in recording the shutout. Lorette has a two point lead over Springfield in the race for first place in the HTJHL. Both teams have two games left. Steinbach will finish in third place and face Macdonald in round one of the playoffs. The Mudbugs and Clippers will meet in the other opening round series. The Comets and Xtreme have a bye to the semifinals. The regular season schedule ends this weekend.

 

Andrew Blahy made 40 saves as the Eastman Selects defeated the Winnipeg Thrashers 4-2 at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour. Merik Bowles, Carter Johannesson, Declan Whiteman and Bryce Warkentine did the goal scoring for the Selects who are in first place in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League. Eastman is two points ahead of the second place Brandon Wheat Kings who have five game in hand on the Selects.

 

Rylen Roersma, Ridly Greig and Vincent Iorio did the goal scoring as the Brandon Wheat Kings blanked the Saskatoon Blades 3-0. Ethan Kruger made 23 saves in recording the shutout.

 

The Manitoba Moose were 5-3 winners over the Abbotsford Canucks. Jeff Malott and Nicholas Jones had two goals each for the Moose. Manitoba defenseman and Portage native Dean Stewart recorded a pair of assists for his first AHL point and first multi-point game.
