Ty Brewster of Steinbach is in a tie for 17th place heading into the final round of the Provincial Junior Men's Golf Championship. Brewster was seven-over par 79 Tuesday at the Teulon Golf & Country Club and is 16 shots back of first round leader Teerawat Boonseeor of Thailand who is even par 144 through 36 holes. Crystal Zamzow of Swan River leads Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake and defending champion Addison Kartusch of St. Charles by two shots heading into the final round of the Provincial Junior Women's Golf Championship which is also at Teulon.
The Carillon Sultans face the Interlake Blue Jays tonight (7 p.m.) at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. The Sultans, who are in third place in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League with a 12-9 record, haven't played since June 25th when they lost both ends of a doubleheader to the Winnipeg South Wolves at Charleswood Park. Carillon will also take on the Pembina Valley Orioles on Friday in Steinbach and then play their regular season finale Sunday night at Quarry Park against Interlake.
Winnipeg Goldeyes right fielder Max Murphy was chosen as a West Division starter for the American Association's upcoming All-Star Game. Reliever Samuel Adames and rookie third baseman Dayson Croes were named to the pitching staff and reserve roster respectively. Murphy has chosen to forego participation in the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby so that he may rest a nagging injury that has affected him in recent weeks. The Robbinsdale, Minnesota native is among the league leaders in home runs (14) and runs batted in (44). Adames has appeared in 20 games this season – all in relief. He leads the Goldeyes’ staff with a 2.05 earned run average and five saves. Croes leads the Goldeyes with a .357 batting average and 65 hits. The Milwaukee Milkmen will host this year’s All-Star Game in Franklin, Wisconsin July 18th.
The Ottawa Senators re-signed defenseman Travis Hamonic to a two-year $2.2 million dollar contract. The 32-year-old St. Malo native, who became an unrestricted free agent on Saturday, had six goals and 21 points in 75 games with the Senators last season.
Curling Canada announced Tuesday that Manitoba's Jennifer Jones and Rachel Homan of Ontario have been named as the pre-qualified teams for the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary based on their 2022-23 Canadian Team Ranking System performance. Curling Canada announced changes to its qualification process for the National Championships as well as Olympic Trials at the end of this past curling season. Jones and Homan join four-time defending Scotties champion Kerri Einarson as the first three teams to qualify for the 2024 Canadian Women's Curling Championship.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added National defensive back Kerfalla Exume to the roster and National linebacker Jared Beeksma to the practice roster. National offensive line Jakub Szott was released from the practice roster. The Blue Bombers host the Calgary Stampeders Friday night at IG Field.
Canada's national men's soccer team will face the United States in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals. Junior Hoilett, Jonathan Osorio, Jayden Nelson and Liam Millar scored as Canada defeated Cuba 4-2 in their group stage finale Tuesday night in Houston, Texas. Canada finished second in Group D with a win and two draws.
