Steinbach Pistons forward Travis Hensrud is the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Player of the Month for September and Cole Plowman has been named the Goaltender of the Month. Hensrud had five goals and five assists in six games. Plowman won all five of his starts while recording a 2.55 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. The 7-0 Pistons next game is Friday against the Turnbull Trophy champion Dauphin Kings at Credit Union Place.


Daniel Hauser of the Winnipeg Ice is the Western Hockey League's Goaltender of the Week. The 18-year-old from Chestermere, Alberta won both his starts and recorded a 1.00 goals against average, .964 save percentage and a shutout. Hauser made 26 saves last Wednesday in Winnipeg's 6-2 victory over the Raiders in Prince Albert. The Ice netminder then stopped all 27 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season as the Ice blanked the Broncos 5-0 in Swift Current on Friday. 


A Las Vegas suburb will be one of the stops on the Rivalry Series tour later this year. The Canada and United States women's hockey teams will face off in Henderson, Nevada on December 15th for the fourth game of their seven-game series. Other stops on the tour include Kelowna, Kamloops and Seattle.


The Toronto Blue Jays clinched the top American League wildcard seed and home field advantage against either the Seattle Mariners or Tampa Bay Rays when the MLB playoffs begin on Friday. Whit Merrifield had three hits and drove in two runs in the Blue Jays rain-shortened 5-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Toronto clinched first place in the AL wildcard standings when the second place Mariners lost 4-3 to the Detroit Tigers.
