The Steinbach Pistons play their final preliminary round game tonight at the Centennial Cup at Stride Place in Portage. The Pistons meet the Battlefords North Stars. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions face a must-win situation. Steinbach is in fourth place in Group B with a win, a loss and an overtime loss. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champions edged Portage 3-2 Monday night and share top spot with the Terriers. Both teams have two wins and a loss. The Collingwood Blues, who have a regulation win and an overtime win, face Kam River today. The Fighting Walleye are winless in three games. The top three teams in the group advance to the playoffs. The preliminary round ends Wednesday. 

Jack Quinn scored the shootout winner as Canada edged Slovakia 2-1 at the World Hockey Championship in Riga, Latvia. Jake Neighbours scored in regulation for the Canadians who lead Group A with eight points. Canada's next preliminary round game is Wednesday against Kazakhstan. 

The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and lost 10-6 to the defending American Association champion Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks at Newman Outdoor Field. RedHawks centre fielder Evan Alexander went 4-5 with a two-run homer, a pair of run-producing triples, and an RBI double. Designated hitter Chris Burgess had three hits for the Fish who have lost three straight. 

It's day three of Winnipeg Blue Bombers main camp. Todays practice session is from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The Bombers first exhibition game is Saturday, May 27th against the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium.

Stony Mountain's Aaron Cockerill finished in a tie for 10th at the DP World Tour's Soudal Open in Antwerp, Belgium. Cockerill, who got in on the cutline, was nine under par over the weekend and finished at minus 11 which was six shots back of Simon Forsstrom. Cockerill is 23rd in the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai Rankings for the second week in a row. 


The Oakwood golf club is enjoying a busy start to the 2023 season. Greens superintendent Ken Bordynuik will join Clayton Dreger on Off the Tee which airs Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
