The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association announced the recipients of the Athlete of the Year Awards from each classification (A, AA, AAA, AAAA), along with the overall High School Male and Female Athlete of the Year Wednesday afternoon in Winnipeg. Gwen Bestland of Sanford Collegiate and Sam Ludwig of Westgate are the AAA and overall Athletes of the Year. The A Athletes of the Year are Kindal DeGraeve and Alex Kubinec of Treherne Collegiate. Serenity Poirier of Lac du Bonnet and Russell Outhwaite of Killarney are the AA winners. The AAAA Athletes of the Year are Ayva Khan and Udhay Chatha of Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg.


It will be a busy Thursday night for the Carillon Sultans and Winnipeg South Wolves at Charleswood Park. The Sultans and Wolves will first complete a suspended game from May 25th that was tied 11-11 and called due to darkness. Carillon and Winnipeg South will then play a pair of five inning games.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes six-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night at Shaw Park. The Fish gave up two runs in the top of the first inning and four more in the third and lost 7-3 to the American Association's West Division leading Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks.


Cam MacDonald had a goal and two assists as the St. John Sea Dogs defeated the Ontario Hockey League champion Hamilton Bulldogs 6-3 in the Memorial Cup final. The Sea Dogs were eliminated in the opening round of the Quebec Junior Hockey League playoffs but earned a spot in the Canadian Hockey League championship as host of the tournament.
