Mason Hartung's sacrifice fly scored Michel Nadeau with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Carillon Sultans defeated the Interlake Blue Jays 3-2 Wednesday night at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. Carillon starter Rylan Penner went six strong innings and allowed six hits, one earned run and struck out 13 Blue Jays. Linden Meilleur pitched the seventh and gave up Connor Smith's two-out rbi single that tied the game at 2-2. The Sultans (13-9) are in third place in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League and have two games left. Carillon will face the Pembina Valley Orioles Friday in Steinbach and play their regular season finale Sunday night against Interlake at Quarry Park in Stonewall. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost both ends of a doubleheader to Sioux City. The Explorers beat Winnipeg 3-2 & 5-0. The Fish went 4-6 on their 10-game road trip. The Goldeyes will begin a nine-game homestand Friday night when they meet the Milwaukee Milkmen at Shaw Park. 


Thailand's Teerawut Boonseeor and Crystal Zamzow of Swan River are the 2023 Manitoba Junior Golf champions. Boonseeor fired a final round one-under par 71 Wednesday at the Teulon Golf & Country Club and won the Junior Boys championship by eight shots over Ryan Orchard of Carman and Grady Chuback of St. Charles. Orchard, Chuback and Terence Rafferty of Southwood will comprise Manitoba's Interprovincial team at the Canadian Junior Boys Championship August 13th-17th in North Bay, Ontario. Ty Brewster of the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club was 10-over par 82 in hs final round and finished in a tie for 19th place at plus 26. Zamzow was two-under par 70 Wednesday at Teulon and finished seven shots ahead of Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake. Zamzow, Lafleche and Cala Korman of the Killarney Lakeside Golf Club will make up Manitoba's Interprovincial team at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship July 23rd-27th in Hampton, New Brunswick.


The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with defenceman Dylan Samberg on a two-year contract with an average annual value of $1,400,000. The 24-year-old Hermantown, Minnesota native played 63 games for the Jets in 2022-23 and recorded eight points (2G, 6A) and 25 penalty minutes. Samberg also played all five playoff games for Winnipeg. Samberg, the Jets’ second-round pick (43rd overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft, has played 78 career NHL games for Winnipeg and posted 13 points (2G, 11A) and 29 PIMs. Samberg spent three seasons with the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 2017-2020 and won a pair of NCAA Championships. Internationally, he has represented Team USA several times, including the 2023 World Championships when he recorded four points (1G, 3A) and four PIMs in 10 games. He also played in a pair of World Junior Championships, winning bronze in 2018 and silver in 2019.

The St. Malo Hurricanes will be playing at Baseball Manitoba's Provincial 13U A championship in Hamiota this weekend. Hurricanes coach Steve Paskaruk will join Clayton Dreger on the Carillon Minor Ball Report which airs Thursdays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
