Baseball Manitoba's Provincial AA championships wrap up today. Mitchell will face Charleswood in the quarterfinals at the 11U championship in Winnipeg; Seine River will meet Macdonald in the quarterfinals at the 13U championship in Morden; Steinbach will take on Morden in the quarterfinals at the 15U championship in Hamiota and the Carillon Sultans had a 1-3 round robin record and failed to qualify for the playoffs at the 18U championship in Brandon. Softball Manitoba Provincial Championships ending today include the U15 A in Winkler; the U17 AAA in Friedensfeld and the U19 AAA in Portage.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up four runs in the first inning and two more in the second and lost 6-4 decision to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Shaw Park. Raul Navarro had a three-run double in the bottom of the first inning for the Fish.


The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with forward Jansen Harkins on a two-year contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $850,000. The 25-year-old Cleveland native played a career high 77 games for the Jets in 2021-22 and also set new highs in goals (7), assists (6), and points (13). Harkins, Winnipeg’s second round pick (47th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft, has played 132 career games for the Jets and posted 22 points (10G, 12A) and 24 penalty minutes, adding a goal in four playoff games. Harkins made his professional debut with the Manitoba Moose in 2015-16 and has since played 156 games for the Moose recording 82 points (27G, 55A) and 88 PIMs.
