Mason Hartung had three hits and drove in four as the Carillon Sultans shutdown the Pembina Valley Orioles 12-0 in five innings Friday night at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. Cody Gunderson and Joe Plett also had three hits each as Carillon improved to 14-9. The Sultans, who will finish in third place in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League, play their regular season finale Sunday against the Interlake Blue Jays at Quarry Park in Stonewall. The Jays lost 6-5 in eight innings to the Altona Bisons.


Baseball Manitoba’s Provincial Championships got underway Friday in Hamiota. Mitchell is 2-0 and Ste. Anne is 1-1 at the 11U A championship. Niverville is 2-0 and St. Malo is 1-1 at the 13U A championship.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up 10 runs in the first three innings and lost 16-4 to the Milwaukee Milkmen at Shaw Park. Max Murphy had a three-run homer for the Fish who have lost five games in a row for the third time this season.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers scored 23 unanswered points and beat the Calgary Stampeders 24-11 Friday night at IG Field. Zach Collaros threw touchdown passes to Rasheed Bailey and Greg McCrae. McCrae also returned a missed field goal attempt 102 yards to the Calgary 13-yard line which set up Sergio Castillo’s second of three field goals. The Bombers are 4-1 and will face the Red Blacks in Ottawa next Saturday.
