A woman from La Broquerie will be getting her very own Grey Cup ring, as the result of last Sunday's Bombers victory.

Nineteen-year-old Angele Gauthier was on the sidelines during Winnipeg's 33-25 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. That is because Gauthier is a member of the Bombers cheerleading squad.

Gauthier says she first caught interest in cheerleading for the Bombers when her best friend's sister made the team back in 2019. Gauthier was too young at the time, but then in 2020 as an 18-year-old, she tried out and successfully made the team, only to learn the CFL season would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In April of this year, Gauthier again went through the process of trying out. Once more, she was successful, and this time there was an actual season.

"Being on the sidelines is super fun, especially winning every single game," says Gauthier, referring to the fact the Bombers went a perfect 7-0 at home during the regular season, before winning the Western Final at home.

From there, Gauthier was invited to be part of the cheerleading team at the Grey Cup in Hamilton, which she says was super stressful.

"The fans from Hamilton are not a big fan of us, so they were giving us a hard time," she explains. "We were just praying that we won. Obviously, it was a stressful game but we did it."

Gauthier says even though she is not a player or coach, it still feels like she is part of the championship team. In fact, she says the cheerleaders will be receiving championship rings.

Gauthier, who belongs to the Vision Cheer Company in Winnipeg, says being part of a Grey Cup winning team is a dream come true.
