Seven of the nine Skimmers who will be competing in Provincials

Nine members of the Steinbach Skimmers swim team are competing in Provincials this weekend.

Gavin Reimer is the youngest of the Skimmers who will be at Provincials, and he says he isn't sure what to expect.

"It's my first time going, so I just want to do good and get a medal I guess," he notes. Antony Saade is another Skimmer who also has some goals in mind.

"I want to beat my times and beat some records," explains Saade. "I want to beat my times for all of my swims, and I'll be proud if I do that."

Fellow swimmer Amy Peters notes they've been waiting for Provincials for awhile.

"I'm looking forward to trying to beat all my old goals," Peters says. "I'm also looking forward to trying to do well in my 800 meter (freestyle), I haven't swam it in awhile. I'm not really nervous for any of my other swims, but the 800 has me a little nervous. I don't do distance swims very often, I'm usually more of a sprinter and I just hope it goes well."

Victoria Belanger took extra steps to prepare for Provincials, as she went south of the border in the final weekend before Provincials for some last minute training.

"I went to a camp at UND (University of North Dakota)," she explains. "We swam four hours a day and had one hour of dryland training every day. I learnt a lot about high elbows, finishing your kicks and straightening the streamline."

The other swimmers who will be representing the Skimmers are Alex Tetrault, Harmony Keller, Jayda Brandt, Clarissa Brandt and Zac Wareham.
