Parents Dean and Desiree welcomed Shilo Denise Irène Beaudoin into the world at 12:50 A.M. on Saturday, January 2nd making her the first baby born in the Southeast in 2021.

Desiree Beaudoin says Shilo was born at Bethesda Regional Health Centre.

"She was 8 pounds, 8 ounces, and 21.5 inches long. She is doing great, she has a little bit of hair and greyish blueish eyes. We are home and she is healthy. I had midwives deliver her so I can go home pretty early after having her and they come to me and help me out."

Beaudoin says baby Shilo has three siblings, Eli, Owen, and Emerson so they've got a very busy household right now. Having had three kids before Shilo, she says it was interesting to see how hospital protocols in the maternity ward have changed due to COVID-19.

"My husband could only leave once and if he had to leave a second time, he couldn't come back. My mom would normally come and help me out at the hospital but nobody could come in so it was just me and my husband. Otherwise, it wasn't too crazy. We had to wear masks in the halls but in our room, we were able to take them off which was nice."

Beaudoin says this was a great start to the year 2021 and it will be neat to one day tell Shilo that she was the very first baby born in the Southeast in the year 2021.
