Teachers and staff at Steinbach Christian School are excited to finally see their students face to face again when school resumes in September.

Principal Emery Plett says the administration has been working hard over the last few weeks putting together their safe return to school plan. He notes in times like these, it is actually very beneficial to be a smaller school.

SCS Principal Emery Plett"I think a big highlight for our plan is we do intend to have our grade 9s to 12s in full time, five days a week. As a small school that is something that, as we took a look at our spaces and the requirements from public health, we can do that and we can do that well. Smaller class sizes, smaller student body, less people moving through and amongst the building makes life that much easier"

Plett notes as per provincial mandates, they too will be using the cohort system and will try to use all of the entrances and exits in a way that keeps cohorts separate. He notes what makes SCS different is that they will be using cohorts in high school as well.

"For us, we are going to combine, as our plan states, by grade. Every two grades will be together, the ones and twos will be a cohort, the threes and fours, fives and sixes, seven-eights, nine-tens, and 11's and 12's and so that again allows us the ability to use classrooms in a more efficient way without mixing with other cohorts."

Many other divisions across the province have had to put together comprehensive plans for busing and transportation. Plett says Steinbach Christian School does not bus their kids to or from their facility so this is not something they really need to worry about.
