The extreme cold warning continues for yet another day, and it is cold enough for schools to close, once again.

In an unusual winter, with poor road conditions and extremely cold weather, school divisions in the Southeast have announced schools will be closed today.

Today’s closures include schools in Hanover School Division and Steinbach Christian, where students stay home but staff are still expected to show up for work at school.

A bitterly cold arctic airmass will remain over the area for the next couple of days, resulting in an extended period of extreme wind chills.

Wind chill values of -40 to -45 are widespread across southern Manitoba this morning. Temperatures will moderate this afternoon before descending once again tonight into Thursday morning.

Hope is on the horizon, as relatively warmer air moves into the province by Friday with a high of minus 11 for the Steinbach area. For Saturday, we can expect a high of minus 4.
