School is starting up for the year and that means school buses will be on the roads once again.

Hanover School Division Director of Transportation, Robert Warkentin, asks everyone to be patient as they are getting back into their usual routine.

“Especially the first number of these, you know, might take a little bit longer at some of our bus stops with everyone getting established and new students and all that sort of thing going on. So just a friendly reminder to our motoring public to be patient with our big yellow buses again.”

He says the routes haven't changed much, so if you saw a bus somewhere last year it will likely be there again this year.

Constable Dennis Redekop says he would like to remind drivers to be mindful of school buses.

“Wherever a school bus is and the stop signs are out from the bus, you do have to stop both ways. If you do not stop, there are hefty fines. Passing a stopped school bus is a $672 fine. A lot of school buses in our area are equipped with cameras, and we do get reports and we will enforce them.”

In addition, Redekop notes school speed zones are in effect Monday to Friday until next June.
