Neelin's defensive streak came to a crashing halt in the first half when the Sabres jumped out to a 21-0 lead at the break. Steinbach's defense proved they were the superior unit, keeping their 11 quarter shut out streak alive.

"It was amazing," says Sabres linebacker Chris Brown-Fillion, who led the regional defense with one forced fumble and two quarterback sacks. "We apparently took out the best team in the Andy Currie Division, and they got a taste of their own medicine with the shutout."

Steinbach finished the past two seasons without a win, but their are now 3-0, sitting at the top of the Winnipeg High School Football League's third division. Sabres Head Coach Jamie Peters says he has been very pleased with his team's play.

"We were really able to shut them down. A big shout out to our defense and our defensive coaches led by Mark Graceffo. They scouted their guys, breaking it down in terms of what they run and how to defend it. We didn't give up many first downs and we were able to capitalize early."

Quarterback Foster Martens threw 12 completions on 20 attempts for 107 yards with touchdown passes to Taylor Buhler and Shelby Kroeker. Mac Ginter-Boyce had his second consecutive big week on the ground, rushing for 205 yards with 2 touchdowns on 19 carries.

Despite the team now being considered the best in the division, Peters says that doesn't mean they get a break or shouldn't stop trying to improve.

"Our slogan is 'to be better.' We have to continue to push and keep working. We are going to continue to work and improve so that we become a better football team."

Steinbach will be packing their bags Monday morning for a four and half hour drive to Dryden, Ontario. The Sabres play their first regular season road game this season 3pm against the Dryden Eagles.
